Re: Goforth move poses question......
Counts you are forgetting though, if you take the 97 teams, you have someone much better than Robbins at QB of that team. Travis would have been the QB, who was recruited by VT, started at UVA-Wise and EKU during his career. You have a D1 RB in Julius, a UVA Wise contributor in Travis Clark. A D1 TE in Josh Warren. Did Ricky Sturgill and Jamie Jessee start at UVA-Wise at one point also as lineman and LB? Was Keith Davis a LB at PV on that team who played at ETSU? Sure there were spots to fill, but you have higher talent levels on those two teams combined than what UVA-Wise put on the field in 97. E&H would have probably been tougher, but you take that 1997 combined team and I could see them going 8-2 or so against UVA-Wise head to head and maybe 4-6 or 5-5 againt E&H. E&H had much better lineman on both sides of the ball than UVA-Wise at that point in time is why I think they would have been tougher.
I know on the undefeated UVA-Wise team in 96 a buddy of mine was in the 3 or 4 man rotation at DT and started a few games as a freshman in that rotation, and he wasn't anything special to be honest.
Re: Goforth move poses question......
Those PV/AHS teams of 97/98 had like 10-15 guys who went on to play college ball at different places. Its not like it was Juice and a bunch of scrubs. Youd have serious talent on the HS side.

Well you have to remember that Brad spent time at WKU and was behind the best QB in UVa-Wise history. Hippeard holds every big time record up there.

I can agree with most of that, good info.

Again I do not argee 1st off I did not realize we were combinding teams however the PV/Appy combo still would not win ANY games vs UVA-Wise OR Emory......Besides JJ there would be several players that would become starters in collage but NOT RIGHT AWAY
As for UVA-Wise and there weak D-Line Going 1 way with a rotation Plus being 19-22 years old as opposed to 15-18 Years old would LOOK MUCH better vs a HS OLINE

The thing is, Appy especially, had so many holdbacks some were 19 at this time. Turner was 1 year ahead of me in school and 3 years older than me. The talent that these two teams had in the upper classes led to very developed players playing only. If you were a SO and started, you were something else. With players starting only 1 way here is roughly what a team could have looked like (and my memory will miss a couple Im sure);
I formation offense:
QB Travis Turner
TB Julius Jones
FB Josh Fleenor
WR Victor Williams (I think this was the name from PV)
FL Travis Wells
TE Josh Warren
T Kelvin Davis
G ??Jason?? Hargrave
C Luke Gilley
G #76 Appy ( I am thinking he was a Needham/Varner or Mabe)
T Doug Gibson
4-3 Defense
DT Darby Younce
DT Shea Chapman
DE Jamie Jessee
DE Ricky Sturgill
LB Don Dorton
LB Keith Davis
LB Derrick Clark
CB Travis Clark
CB Michael Prewitt
S Matt McCoy
S Josh Callahan
Theres still a couple of quality lineman still available for either side of the ball or we could move off a different TE and put Warren at DE instead if need be. It would have been flat out nasty.
Re: Goforth move poses question......
I really disagree. You have might have 1 or 2 players on either side of the line, OL or DL, that couldnt play at UVAW but the rest of the team would be a powerhouse.
Its not like the UVAW kids would be that much older, if you combine PV/AHS you would have most likely senior starters at each position on both sides of the line.
To look at it this way, the combined team would have a D1 QB, a NFL RB, a D1 TE/DE, a D1 LB, talent everywhere.
Emory was really good at that time, but I do believe the PV/AHS team beats UVAW at least 5 times out of 10.

Now I know you are on crack...If Duncan had stood back there and thrown 45 passes a game (he only threw MAYBE 10-15 times per game), he would have blown Brad's numbers out of the water. I guess an All-State Selection and 2 State Titles isn't as good as passing for 3,000 yards on 500 attempts. To each his own I guess..but I put Duncan AND Blagg over Brad Robbins.
Re: Goforth move poses question......
Thinking back, in 97 if you had combined PV/Appy/Lee/GC, UVA-Wise would may have beat them once in 10 tries. E&H maybe twice. That would have been one ridiculous team.

LOL I figered i would get a rise out of you on that one
I STILL stand by both my comments 97 VA-Wise > 97 PV AND Robbens was a better QB than Duncan
I will throw in that I DO think 90 PV > 97 PV
